Wedmore Street - townhouses.
Islington, London

We were appointed to provide design proposals for the redevelopment of a public house set within the confines of an urban park setting in Islington. The development consists a new build row of six townhouses conceived as a contemporary reading of the Victorian terrace form, set within open space surroundings with prominent exposure to all elevations.

Each elevation has been carefully articulated responding to the site context and park setting. On the dominant westward elevation large format shutters provide privacy to recessed terraces set within glass clad light box modules, formed to highlight the sense of occupation.

Robust proportions feature in conjunction with carefully composed forms and a locally referenced material selection, reinforcing the steadfast qualities of the townhouses in their context.

Planning consent for the development was approved in May 2013. The planning inspector made specific reference to the unique and interesting design, highlighting that these well considered proposals would provide a respectful addition to the street scene and site context.

The plan layouts of the townhouses have been conceived to provide flexible family accommodation along with private external patio areas.
