From its commanding position above Porthminster Beach this house is imagined as a gallery with each space responding to apertures framing the spectacular views and capturing the abundant light.
Our client’s brief was to take full advantage of the commanding position of the former coastguard radio house site set above Porthminster Beach with its picturesque views over St. Ives, and beyond.
The proposed new house is oriented towards the beach with internal spaces structured around primary and secondary apertures framing views out to the open sea and also to capture the historic St. Ives town and harbour.
The new house consists two levels of communal and guest accommodation set above ground level with private bedroom suites set within two sub-ground levels terraced into the hillside. Traditional locally sourced materials including white-washed stonework will feature throughout.
